  • Genome BC Announces New Funding for Technology Centres in British Columbia

    Genome BC has announced new funding for the UVic Genome BC Proteomics Centre. An excerpt from the press release:

    "Vancouver, BC – Genome British Columbia is pleased to announce that two existing BC research and technology platforms have been awarded funding through Genome Canada’s 2010 Science & Technology Innovation Centre (STIC) Operations Support Competition. The technology platforms, now called Science and Technology Innovation Centres (STICs), are led by Dr. Marco Marra of Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre (GSC) which will receive up to $6.6 million, and Dr. Christoph Borchers of the UVic – Genome BC Proteomics Centre which will receive up to $3.4 million."

  • UVic Genome BC Proteomics Centre Receives Funding from Western Economic Diversification Canada for Two New Mass Spectrometers

    Dr. Christoph Borchers, Facility Director of the UVic Genome BC Proteomics Centre, has received $663,000 in funding from the Western Economic Diversification Canada Program (WDP) for the purchase of two new mass spectrometers, a Thermo Scientific Orbitrap LTQ Velos, and an Agilent 6490 Triple Quadrupole. The announcement took place at the Vancouver Island Technology Park (VITP) and was presented by the Honourable John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.

  • Dr. Christoph Borchers appointed the Don and Eleanor Rix B.C. Leadership Chair in Biomedical and Environmental Proteomics

    Facility Director Dr. Christoph Borchers was appointed the Don and Elanor Rix B.C. Leadership Chair in Biomedical and Environmental Proteomics on the 21st of July, 2011 during a ceremony at the Vancouver Island Technology Park. The chair comes with an endowment of $4.5M, $2.25M from the Rix Family Foundation and $2.25M from the B.C. Government by way of the Leading Edge Endowment Fund. The fund will be used to further research in the health and forestry sectors.
